Superficial bladder cancer is not a rare disease.
Intravesical therapy of superficial bladder tumors
using Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) has been
established worldwide since the end of the seventies,
and since that time has found an ever-widening
acceptance. In spite of this, many questions regarding
its application and therapeutic success have remained
unanswered. The partly conflicting results of
studies require interpretation and explanation.
This educational website closes this gap, which
has existed for some considerable time, and for
the first time provides a complete electronic
overview of the available knowledge on superficial
bladder cancer and intravesical BCG therapy. It
gives helpful opinions on applications and provides
information on side effects as well as a complete
list of all complications described in the world
literature. The therapeutic success of intravesical
BCG therapy is demonstrated in a comparison with
otherwise untreated patients (TUR) and also in
comparison with intravesical chemotherapy. Furthermore,
we have included a brief, comprehensible explanation
of the functional mechanism.
This educational program represents an urgently needed, clear compilation of information on intravesical BCG therapy. In my opinion, every practising urologist should frequently update his knowledge on this website.
